The 2015 Jimny

The Jimny has been around for quite a while. First launched in 1998, the current generation Jimny hasn't undergone any major revisions since, relying solely on minor updates and a number of new engines to keep it fresh. For 2015, the Jimny has been given another set of upgrades, this time focusing on safety and a bit on styling, to keep it going for another couple of years before being replaced by the next generation Jimny.

The highlight of the 2015 model year update is the availability of ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system along with a traction control system for the Jimny. This will allow Suzuki to continue selling the Jimny in markets like Australia, where those features has become mandatory.

The update also includes a new set of 15-inch alloy wheels with dark-gloss finish, a new steering wheel, which appears to be taken directly from Suzuki’s latest Kei car models such as the Wagon R, Spacia, and Hustler, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a gearshift indicator to help optimise fuel consumption.

Suzuki has also given the Jimny three new color choices: “Cool Khaki Pearl Metallic”, “Silver Steel Metallic” and “Bison Brown Pearl Metallic”.

Despite the fact that it is more of a niche product rather than a mainstream volume-seller, and that it has not gone through any major update for the last 15 years, the Suzuki Jimny appears to have a relatively stable sales figure, selling more than the more mainstream Grand Vitara year-to-date in Europe. It is no wonder that Suzuki will continue to sell one of it’s most iconic model in it’s current guise for a few more years.

JDM Kei-Car Version

The JDM-only 660cc Kei car version of the Jimny gets a very minor set of updates for the 2015 model year, including the new steering wheel, and a new instrument panel, while ESC is still absent for this version.

JDM Jimny Sierra

The non-keicar version of the Jimny with a 1.3litre engine is also sold alongside the Kei-car version in Japan. It is sold under the name Jimny Sierra.

The Jimny Sierra also gets a number of updates for the 2015 model year, including ESC (Electronic Stability Control), the new steering wheel, and new instrument panel.

Differences from the global version includes the front grille.

The global version of the Jimny is also sold under the name "Jimny Sierra" in Australia, emphasizing it's relation to it's predecessor, the popular Samurai,  which was sold under the name "Suzuki Sierra" in Australia.

A Landventure limited edition version with features that are similar to the Jimny Landventure is also available.

Brazilian Version

Apart from Japan, the current generation Jimny has also been produced in Brazil. The Brazilian plant has been serving the local market since late 2012, and has helped boost sales of the Jimny in the Brazilian market from less than 1,000 units in 2012, up to more than 2,000 units in 2014.

Suzuki has established itself as an offroad focused brand in Brazil, and the Jimny serves as one of it's main products, with 4x4 events with the Jimny as the main focus being held every year.

The 2015 update has not been confirmed for the Brazilian Jimnys, as there are no requirements for cars to have ESP and TPMS in Brazil. The Brazilian Jimny is available in brighter colour choices, including orange, yellow, green, and even pink.

The Brazilian Jimny is currently available in versions, which includes:
  • Jimny4All: The conventional version of the Jimny similar to the global version.
  • Jimny4Sun: A version with foldable panoramic sunroof.
  • Jimny4Sports: A version with off road oriented modifications. It is equipped with custom bumpers, side moldings, roof rack and wheels in graphite color. It also has wheels boxes for MUD tires, front and rear hitches, snorkel and other unique items.
  • Jimny4Work: A version featuring customizable options according to the customer's needs, including: snorkel, MUD tire, front and rear hitches. It is available in versions city / field and off-road.
